Management of Corporate Debt – Write Off of Outstanding Amounts |
Purpose: |
Cabinet
Thursday 27 February 2025
The Local Authorities (Executive Arrangements) (Meetings and Access to Information) (England) Regulations 2012
Notice is hereby given in accordance with Regulation 5 and 10 of the Local Authorities (Executive Arrangements) (Meetings and Access to Information) (England) Regulations 2012 that reports containing Exempt information will be considered by Cabinet, at its meeting on Thursday 27 February 2025. Notification of this Exempt Decision was not published on the Council’s website 28 clear days before it was due to be considered by Cabinet, as is required by these regulations.
Purpose of the Report
Cabinet will be asked to agree to the proposed write off of debts in respect of council tax, business rates, housing benefit overpayments and rents.
Reason for urgency:
A decision regarding the write off of debts needs to be taken before the end of the financial year. Therefore, the decision cannot wait until the next meeting of Cabinet which is in April 2025. Failure to write off debt once it is considered irrecoverable will lead to increased expenditure on the debt management function.
This report is exempt, and it is proposed that it be considered in private to avoid the disclosure of exempt information as defined in paragraph 3 and 5 of Part 1 of Schedule 12A to the Local Government Act 1972 (as amended by the Local Government (Access to Information) (Variation) Order 2006).
The Chair of the Services Scrutiny Committee has been informed of the decision to be taken in respect of the exempt report at the above meeting of Cabinet and agreed to the urgency provision.
