Review of the Council's Statement of Principles under the Gambling Act 2005 Additional documents:
Minutes: The Environmental Health Team Manager (Licensing) presented a report to consider the draft Statement of Principles under the Gambling Act 2005, which included a proposal for the Committee to approve the revised draft Statement of Principles under the Gambling Act 2005 to allow a 12 week public consultation period to begin.
Members were informed that if approved, the responses to the public consultation would be presented to the Committee once the 12 week period had expired.
The Environmental Health Team Manager (Licensing) shared that because of the national concern about the negative effects of gambling, there had been additions about responsible gambling made to the Statement.
Members referred to paragraph 2.16 of the report (‘Gambling Related Complaints’) and asked what the nature of the one complaint for 2024/25 had been. The Environmental Health Team Manager (Licensing) explained that this was due to a mix-up with an address.
Members discussed the format of the public consultation. The Environmental Health Team Manager (Licensing) told Members that a number of methods would be used including the Ask Derbyshire website.
Members asked if anything was included about a correlation between gambling and domestic violence. The Environmental Health Team Manager (Licensing) explained that Licensing officers did ask Public Health England and the Police if any crime or health statistics were available, but they could not provide any figures as evidence.
RESOLVED -
(1) That the Committee approved the revised draft Statement of Principles under the Gambling Act 2005 for public consultation.
(2) That the Committee required the Joint Assistant Director of Environmental Health to conduct a 12 week public consultation in line with statutory requirements and report the findings back to the Committee for consideration at a later date.
