Creation of Fixed Term PR and Communications Officer (Exploring the District)

Decision Maker: Managing Director

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Decision:

To utilise approved UK Shared Prosperity Funding to establish a fixed term PR and Communications Officer (Exploring the District) post.
The appointment will be on a fixed term contract up to 31 March 2025 and will be engaged to work primarily on the brief as identified in the UKSPF bid.
Estimated cost of £32k per annum based upon the Clay Cross Town Deal Communication Apprentice budget.
This decision actions the Cabinet approval of the North East Derbyshire UK Shared Prosperity Fund Investment Plan on 21 July 2022, following confirmation of approval of the Investment Plan by the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) on 5 December 2022 and ensures the delivery of the contracted outputs of the North East Investment Plan’s ‘Exploring the District’ priority.

Reasons for the decision:

Contained in Decision section above.

Alternative options considered:

Other options have been considered such as the creation of a
permanent post more attractive to applicants or subsuming the duties
with existing staff but these would respectively create financial liabilities
for the Council and disrupt and over-burden core service provision. To
be able to meet contracted outputs, funding profiles and apprenticeship
timescales it is important to commence with this recruitment
immediately. This is therefore the most expedient and effective use of
available resources to meet the objectives of the North East Derbyshire
UK Shared Prosperity Fund Investment Plan.
