CHANGES TO DESIGNATED POLLING PLACES AND STATIONS

Decision Maker: Assistant Director of Governance & Monitoring Officer

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Decision:

To approve the use of The Arkwright Centre as a designated polling place/station on a temporary basis for the elections to be held on Thursday 4 May 2023.

Reasons for the decision:

In accordance with the Representation of the People Act 1983, the Council has a duty to divide the District into polling districts and to designate a polling place for each of these districts.
Existing Polling Station: Mobile Station at The Arkwright Arms
Proposed Polling Station: The Arkwright Centre
Due to the ongoing road works on the main road outside of The Arkwright Arms it has been necessary to move all electors from the Mobile Station to The Arkwright Centre for the forthcoming election on Thursday 4 May 2023. Whilst the road works should be completed by the end of April it is not known when the contractor will fully remove all their equipment/site cabin from the car park of The Arkwright Arms where we would normally site the Mobile Station.
It is proposed that The Arkwright Centre is used as polling station on a temporary basis for this election.

Alternative options considered:

The Council has a statutory duty to designate adequate polling places for electors and due to the reasons above the polling station changes are necessary for the District and Parish Elections in May 2023 and for some all future elections.
