To make a Tree Preservation Order on a single sycamore tree on land at Church Farm, Main Road, Holmesfield, Dronfield.

The Council received notification of the intention to pollard a single sycamore tree in Holmesfield Conservation Area. It was considered the works proposed were not compatible with the tree’s value to the area.

A provisional TPO (297) was made in respect of this tree in December 2023 but in coming to confirm the Order it was noted that the tree had been incorrectly plotted on the plan accompanying the provisional Order such that the confirmation of the Order could not proceed.

The tree was subject of a TEMPO assessment which identified that the tree merited formal protection as it makes an important visual contribution to the amenity of the locality. The circumstances as at December 2023 remain unaltered.

As such, it is considered now appropriate to make a further order to protect the tree.

There is one other option and that’s to not make the order but that leaves the tree open to removal/unrestricted works and is not considered a suitable alternative.
