REPLACEMENT OF THE COUNCIL'S CIVIC CAR

Decision Maker: Assistant Director of Streetscene

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Decision:

Replacement of the Council's Civic Car (Volvo Saloon) due to reaching the end of its extended utilisation period.

The replacement (Ford Galaxy) will be purchased by way of the Nottinghamshire Procurement Partnership Framework Contract at a cost of £26,529.

Light commercial vehicles are procured via the Nottinghamshire Consortium Procurement Partnership Framework Contract, for the provision of Cars, Light Commercial Vehicles up to 3,500kg GVW and Minibuses (Ref: 2015/5087 - 157149) awarded to Perry's (02.05.15).

Reasons for the decision:

The Council's current Civic Car has been utilised over a twelve year period. Increasing maintenance costs etc support the view that it is reaching the end of its economical period of utilisation. A budget provision for a replacement has been included within the agreed 2016/17 capital budget.

The replacement (Ford Galaxy) will offer greater flexibility by having 7 seats with improved access allowing increased use on a range of Council business.

Alternative options considered:

Replacement of vehicles by way of finance lease arrangements was not considered to offer good value to the Council and reduces the scope for flexibility concerning how vehicles are managed throughout the course of their anticipated life; in particular, where vehicles may require releasing from the leasing agreement prior to their natural end date.

The option of continuing to operate the current vehicle was rejected because of its age, increasing maintenance costs and the fact that an alternative vehicle would meet a wider range of Council needs.
